Past Productions

The Haus of Casati Collective just won an award for their production of Mike Bartlett's My Child!
One child caught between parents who can't behave. "Inappropriately public." Coffee for sale.
Tell me about it...

It's the story of a relationship unravelling at the seams while a child is forced to navigate the swampy remains of his family. It doesn't matter how right you think  you are, or how "good," because all that matters is that no one else sees it that way. A story of possession and how deeply disappointment rots.

Why here? Why now?

Bartlett may not be from Toronto but he might as well be. He captures the electric pulse of our city in a way that pushes into the surreal while echoing profoundly in reality. Toronto loves Bartlett and so do we.

At a time when the concept of family has become so fluid and so untraditional, especially in the metropolis, the struggle to find a new form of stability can be exhausting. Through struggles like these, the most vulnerable people can fall through the cracks, which is exactly what happens in My Child.

We like it when things get a little messy. We love that Bartlett doesn't pull his punches. And we adore that he wants this play to be "inappropriately public."

Coffee for sale!

If Bartlett wants his play public, then lets all snuggle in, get comfortable, and have a coffee! We performed in a coffee shop, where the audience could buy a coffee and a scone and settle in for some theatre right at their feet. YES! Everyone could be eating and drinking during the show and they could leave their phones on to text and tweet about the show.
